Education Clusters have been set up at field level in a number of countries experiencing humanitarian crises throughout the past year and more.   The Education Cluster Implementation Update of August 2008 shows that 17 Countries have formally implemented the Education Cluster, out of a total of 24 countries implementing the cluster approach.  Click here for more information.

The Education Cluster Appeal and Workplan 2007-2008 has four defined projects: capacity mapping; coordination and surge capacity; training for capacity building; and needs assessment, monitoring and evaluation.  There are a number of cross-cutting and emerging areas of work such as gender; stockpiling and supplies; HIV and AIDS; and mental health and psychosocial support.  Click here for more information.

The key donors to the education component of the cluster appeal have been: Denmark, Ireland, Norway and Sweden.  In addition, UNICEF received a large contribution from the Netherlands to support Education in Emergencies and Post-Crisis Transition, some of which was used for the Education Cluster.  Financial support for UNICEF has also come from the UK through a contribution to surge capacity/roster development from the DFID Phase 3 Capacity Building Project.
